When Ellie and six of her friends return home from a camping trip deep in the bush, they find things hideously wrong -- their families gone, houses empty and abandoned, pets and stock dead. Gradually they begin to comprehend that their country has been invaded and everyone in the town has been taken prisoner. As the horrible reality of the situation becomes evident they have to make a life-and-death decision:

While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. When Ruby woke up on her 10th birthday, something about her had changed.

Something frightening enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. When Eragon finds a polished stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight, his simple life is shattered and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic and power.

With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance.

The monster showed up after midnight. As they do. But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming This monster is something different, though.

Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor. It wants the truth. When the Cullens, including her beloved Edward, leave Forks rather than risk revealing that they are vampires, it is almost too much for year-old Bella to bear.

But she finds solace in her friend Jacob, until he is drawn into a "cult" and changes in terrible ways. Three years since my best friend, Sarah, was killed in a bathroom stall during the mass shooting. I know because I was with her when she died.

Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God. I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. That's when things started really going wrong.

Now I spend my time fighting with swords, battling monsters with my friends, and generally trying to stay alive. This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea. A terrorist doesn't let strangers in her flat because they might be undercover police or intelligence agents, but her children bring their mates home and they run all over the place. The terrorist doesn't know that a kid has bugged every room in her house, cloned the hard drive on her PC, and copied all the numbers in her phone book.

The kid works for Cherub. Cherub agents are aged between ten and seventeen. They live in the real world, slipping under adult radar and getting information that sends criminals and terrorists to jail. After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive.

After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: Trust no one. On a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see.

To stay alone is to stay alive, until Cassie meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan may be her only hope for rescuing her brother and even saving herself. Now she must choose For year-old Tris, the world changes in a heartbeat when she is forced to make a terrible choice.

Turning her back on her family, Tris ventures out, alone, determined to find out where she truly belongs. Shocked by the brutality of her new life, Tris can trust no one. And yet she is drawn to a boy who seems to both threaten and protect her.

The hardest choices may yet lie ahead…. A debut novel that will leave you breathless. When his guardian dies in suspicious circumstances, year-old Alex Rider finds his world turned upside down. Then, armed with his own special set of secret gadgets, he's off on his first mission to Cornwall, where Middle-Eastern multi-billionaire Herod Sayle is producing his state-of-the-art Stormbreaker computers - but there's more to Sayle than meets the eye The first of an enormously popular series that has been translated and published all over the world.

I re-read this series every few years and love the story. It is a great series and I strongly commend it. As others have said if you love Red Dawn the 80s version this is a great series. That said the narrator's inconsistent and incorrect pronunciation really became an annoyance for me, distracting from the overall experience. I am surprised that other people have positively rate the narrator's ability to voice each character, I found this to be a weakness. I guess we all perceive and experience things differently, this narrator is not to my taste.

Any additional comments? The book was OK. I mean it's the first in the series, and i would not mind to read the other parts. Very easy language, without too much of detailing and descriptions; easy to follow. However, not sure if I can listen to any more of Suzi's performance I did not enjoy it for a few reasons: The other thing i found confusing is that the pitch of her voice makes the teenagers of this book sound like 10 yo kids..

So in my mind i had a picture of either way too smart kids or a bit "slow" teens, which was kind of annoying as well; - a few times Suzi would get to a bit faster pace, but then the words are all mumbled.. I'll give it a rest and probably read more of the books from the series or just watch a movie but probably won't listen any more books, read by Suzi..

Incredible book, im ready to get into the rest of the series now. So much better than the movie was. This story could happen to us, with our natural resources, but our own Government are behind the times with national Defense, if we did get invaded, the war would be a guerrilla, type war hit and run, , attacking infrastructure, rail bridges, power, road bridges, and to stop there resupply.

The would be fought by all ages, love the story. I sat and listen for the whole 7 hours while modeling, I'm a old warhorse, love these stories and the movies, its a bloody shame that the second story, movie was not made it would have been good, cheers, I own a couple of the books, easy to listen, Awesome read, Cheers.

I was made to read this at school and fell in love. Such a great story, can't wait to read the next one in the series: These details made the story even Better and more believable. An amazing story. Great imagination and beautiful poetical writing. So descriptive. Loved it. Recommend highly.

I highly recommend this book to any and all. While it is listed as a young adult book, the description of the Australian wilderness, and the human reaction to death and war is right on for all ages. While starting a bit slowly it really gets moving after the war begins. The narrator is great and the story moves right along, making you want to hear what happens next. Loved this book! If your old enough to remember the movie Red Dawn and liked it If your too young for that then Hunger Games fans should enjoy also.

I was born in Australia and all the cultural references in the language came flooding back. I guess I may be a bit biased because of that but seriously the story was a gripping and thought provoking tale. Tomorrow, When the War Began eBook: John Marsden: Kindle Store

Adventure at its best. I'm now hooked and am so happy that audible has the sequels available. I since read that this work won many awards as book for late teens. Don't let that put you off its not just a kids book!

It's quite dark and serious in places. Would you listen to Tomorrow, When the War Began again? Also, it is a movie made in Australia if you can get it. It is true to the book. What was one of the most memorable moments of Tomorrow, When the War Began? When Ellie and the group realize, at the end, what the mission has to be; when they realize what the magnitude of the situation is and their odds — very powerful.

Suzi does a great job bringing each character alive in a way print just cannot manage. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

John Marsden. The action is sparse, but when it does happen it can be shocking. The real story is what happens before the action and violence ensues.

From the comfort of home we get to see the kids learn, mostly on their own, how to think, act, and plan like soldiers. After every action they deal with the consequences as well as they can. The consequences being reactions from the enemy, as well as the emotional and psychological costs of what they face. Marsden goes further than just the violence of the conflict and gives us great views of the kid's day to day lives as they hide in the bush, go on food and information raids, and interact in their limited social circle.

I did grow to care about all the characters, and my one wish was that we could have seen the story from the perspective of the other kids sometimes. This was not a complaint however as we learn a lot about Ellie, not just from the story she tells, but the way in which she tells it. Hopefully the weird typos will be corrected soon. I suspect it must have been a problem with the transfer to digital, not because John Marsden forgot to proofread.

This was a gripping and inspiring read. The young people in this story showed bravery and courage way beyond their years. I don't think I could have ever done the things they did, myself, and I am now 74 years of age.

I honor them for what they carried out, and the suspense was heart-stopping! As brave as they were, I can see, however, how the things they did will mark their lives forever, and not in an attractive way.

Something happens to you when you've done something intrinsically horrible; you can't go back and do it over, in a different way, and you have to live--as best you can--under the circumstances. I have bought the next two books in the series, and each is masterfully done, but with the consequences I had feared. But I will stick with the whole series. I have grown to like and actually admire each of the main characters, and I hope that they will survive--somehow. The editing in this first book is very good, but, with each of the following books, the spelling, and the poor punctuation, and even wrong word choices make me stop to figure out what the author had in mind.

It's very annoying. The action is very compelling. Still, too bad, and I hope I don't run into much more of this shoddy work; the author must be most chagrinned to see what has happened to the words he had chosen so well.
