I know Rujuta has another book out for us women and I am looking forward to read it to see what is new in that book which Rujuta has not already covered in this one. Apr 16, Chicky Kadambari rated it liked it. Just basic common sense information, put together in one place.
An over-hyped book. The language was too 'Mumbaiya' for my taste. Perhaps, this kind of over-casual tone appeals to some readers. It was a turn-off for me. Just a good compilation of basic common sense. My Rating: Mar 24, Ashish Iyer rated it really liked it Shelves: The Author has clearly explained how we eat our foods in an odd way and get fat.
I think this is a game changer and every person should read it to lead a better and healthy life. View 2 comments. Feb 07, Ritu Mantri rated it it was amazing.
Let me first tell you few mantras discussed by the author in the book 1 No food with nutrients is bad or fattening and this includes ghee, butter, oil, cheese, fruits rich in calories etc. You just need to eat it at the right time and the right amount. They can eat their sweets or desserts but as a meal and not with the meal or first thing in the morning. Only once in a week. Same thing goes for deep-fried food. Relish your food with all your five senses in a cross legged position. The food will digest well.
Don't blindly follow the extreme diet plans which will only bring long term harm to your body.
Your body needs fat, carbs and protein to function properly. Your body will be prepared for the onslaught. Last but not the least, do take a protein rich food after exercise or workout. Protein helps in repairing wear and tear of muscle tissues. Absence of which you will not feel like exercising next day.

Just two words for We know more about our cars mobiles in my case than our body- this is the line which caught my attention in this book. Just two words for this book- Lucid and Enlightening. Mar 18, Hriday rated it liked it. There are diet books that make you feel good when you read them, and there are those which are effective at helping you lose weight and keep those kilos off. However while her book has several truths in it, it is unfortunately a book which is unlikely to help you lose weight though it would leave you feeling happy and enlightened.
I have three major gripes with the book. Nor is finding time to eat 6 meals feasible for most people. Yes there are examples like the one of the corporate jet setter who followed her advice successfully. But heck if we had that kind of self-discipline we would not be in the shape we are in, right? Thirdly, apart from the 4 principles there are so many rules and exceptions that it would be impossible to retain them for most people.
Most people have the capacity to follow 4 or 5 major principles. Go beyond that and you only have confused people doing what they want and thinking they are following something scientific.
There is a minor third gripe- The unnecessary name dropping of film stars and the horrible Hinglish which fills the book. But I doubt if it would actually be possible to lose weight following the advice in this book except for the iron willed- the numbers of whom among chubby folks should be minuscule. Want to lose weight? And Stay there? Go Keto! Live Keto! It is a far more effective lifestyle change which is also doable.
Mar 24, Monika Kesar rated it really liked it. Because Indians easily adopt another lifestyle without knowing harms. Our legacy and ayurveda explains everything but still we listen others. Oct 14, Surabhi Mishra rated it really liked it. Don't lose your mind, lose your weight is one of the few books on weight loss which go beyond just weight loss. It is simple, clear, written in a colloquial manner which engages the reader, causes her to think about the pitfalls of conventional wisdom about eating, exercising, dieting and losing weight quickly.
The best way to describe it is to say that it is about inclusion of habits, patterns and routines which help towards healthy living. And, not just weight loss which is temporary and in man Don't lose your mind, lose your weight is one of the few books on weight loss which go beyond just weight loss. And, not just weight loss which is temporary and in many cases harmful.
The examples are plenty and many of these you will identify with. You will see yourself as the person who tried so hard to keep to a diet or with a person who thinks why should I exercise if I am paying my fees to a dietitian. Although I have never been fond of the many slangs used in the book but I can see how they may help in connecting with the audience. For me the biggest learning was that I didn't have to feel guilty about food no matter what I may have thought in the past.
And, it strengthened my resolve to eat healthy, keep fit and be active. And, I am fairly certain this book has something which will connect with everyone who picks it up. And, that's what I think Rujuta Diwekar wanted to achieve - to write book which is informative, simple, engaging and full of action points for people on the path to lose weight and more importantly be healthy.
When i came across this book on flipkart, the book's catchy title got me curious and bought it. When i read the first few pages of the book on dieting i was genuinely interested. Rujuta Diwekar, the author busts many myths on dieting and weight loss and gives "the four principles of eating right" which form the core of this book.

While reading you will come across many examples;which in author's own words are real life examples.. Though the voice format of the book is gentle'.. The best thing.. Reduced the rating to 2 stars from 4 stars - After reading a book written by a doctor, I feel everything written in this book is wrong and those who follow this author will be at a loss.
Nothing is scientific here. The only turn off was the mumbaiya Hindi inserted throughout the book, along with references to Bollywood and stars. Also the author goes overboard with her praising for Indian Reduced the rating to 2 stars from 4 stars - After reading a book written by a doctor, I feel everything written in this book is wrong and those who follow this author will be at a loss.
Other than that, liked the tips that she gave and hope to follow some of them to see if I can see the results for myself. Will update this review later on with my findings. Sep 18, Srujan rated it really liked it. NOT a Miracle Book, but I read and re-read a chapter from time to time just to reinforce common sensibilities about eating. Liked readin the book although was not able to follow about the first few pages where she talks about vitamins, carbs etc but overall very good.
I learnt following things: Too much of anything is good for nothing and this is true for crash diets where they don't take everything may be they eat only soups, salads, fruits etc. I was thinking that fat, carbohydrates is not good and should reduce but after reading and after understanding some basic functioning of the body, I changed my mind and re Liked readin the book although was not able to follow about the first few pages where she talks about vitamins, carbs etc but overall very good.

If this knowledge can be incorporated properly in our daily life then one must see and feel the results pretty clearly. I am a fan of Rajuta now, and will surely follow her sequels and try to implement in my day to day life. Loved this book! No diets, no crash diets, no liquid diets, no forgoing one's food habits etc.
Rujuta explains in simple language how one can lose weight while following our daily food habits, even indulging in fatty foods, deserts etc.

My mom actually told me to read this book after she heard RD talk in some seminar: But I must say, this book is very sensible and logical. Going back to the basics and eating the way we did as kids home cooked, fresh food is the important thing! Didnt like the language much, but then this is not literature, but a nutrition book. Definitely a one time read! Jun 10, Abhijit added it. The food items mentioned are easily available in India, I dont need 2 hunt 4 chicken guacamole whole wheat pita or macadamia nuts.
