Despite the rich and detailed amount of science included in Nora Gedgaudas's excellent book, even Britney Spears could understand it.

Gedgaudas got a lot right, however, I finished the book concerned about the quality of the studies on which she bases her recommendations. There were a number of 'uh-oh' moments that left me wondering about data quality. Two examples. In one instance she warns about the dangers of homogenized milk, particularly skim or low fat due to the presented fact that powdered dry milk is added to these products to give body and the powdered milk is highly oxidized.

I brought this up with my sister and brother in law who are very familiar with the dairy industry and they laughed and told me this might have been done in the 50s but no main-stream producer today does this. A little on-line research supports this. Uh-oh, if this stated fact is wrong, how many other quoted studies are off as well.

I then found that the oxidization theory is also an old one and there are some well presented arguments that for me leave it in the realm of 'disputed' at best though in Primal Body, it is presented as solid fact.

Then I got to the back of the book and found a recommendation for bowel cleansing. For me, this was another 'uh-oh' moment. I have been in the medical field for a long time and this topic comes up from time to time with my patients.

I have looked at the insides of normal intestines both through colonoscopies and dissection, have done blood testing including for toxins, have thought about how our bodies work, have searched for a serious and well done study that supports cleansing without avail and am still at a loss as to what if anything is accomplished with this practice.

In short, regarding this book, Much of her material regarding reducing carbohydrates and allowing real fats in your diet is well supported by other studies and I think she does a good job discussing this. Then there are the 'uh oh' moments which make you wonder how much of the book you can believe. This book is quite simply the best book on nutrition currently available.

Price, and others are also very good, this author has taken the best of the information from all of them and condensed it together in one place in a very readable manner.

The SAD Standard American Diet fact is that almost everything we are told by mainstream "authorities" about diet and nutrition is blatantly, tragically, and even fatally wrong.

Authorities have been corrupted by bad information and extreme economic interests who couldn't care less if we all died tomorrow, much less if we are healthy. The things supposedly responsible agencies and organizations are still pushing on a trusting public are causing millions upon millions of people to grow ill and die. Perhaps if those groups could be held accountable for all that illness and death, it would stop. I am too much of a realist to think that will happen easily, or any time soon.

Especially when governmental agencies waste enormous sums of taxpayer money to bully and attack people who are trying to shine a light on this situation. Until that changes, the best thing we can do is educate ourselves to the facts, and pursue a healthy diet on our own.

It is the most complete collection of valid dietary information I have ever seen in one place. In addition to lining out the situation and correcting the many lies about our food, she also discusses how to find good food, gives some sample menus, and some sources for high quality food.

She injects welcome bits of humor here and there to lighten up a topic which can be quite tedious and serious. I have studied health and nutrition for over 4 decades, and if this information had been available 40 years ago, I would be in sparkling, fantastic health today.

You owe it to yourself to read this book and learn as much as possible from it. It can change your life for the better. There are many other books that take these topics into greater depth, but if you can buy only one book on nutrition, make it this one. Your body will thank you. Very highly recommended. I am planning on getting more to give away to those I care about. Whether you call it keto or paleo, this is the reason behind it.

Nora goes through great detail starting with our own human history, what we ate and why, and how it has evolved into the 21st century today's food is killing us, literally. She goes into wonderful exploration of our bodies, how it processes and utilizes food. What is quite startling is what happens when the body is given food it isn't design to use and how your body reacts to it.

I started a keto diet 6 months ago and will not go back. It was a little hard at first but the benefits have been tremendous, not only in weight, but clarity of mind, thought, focus, energy and general feeling of well being.

I wish I got this book first no matter, I have it now as Nora answers a lot of questions I had and supplies information I wasn't aware of. She also describes how we need to modernize the traditional paleo diet slightly to accomodate our 21st century living. Excellent book. By the way, you don't need to be a biologist to understand it as she writes in a very informative, practical and down to earth style.
